Does anybody know something about a special IBM graphic
controller for pc/XT called " Professionnal Graphic controller"?
It is made of three cards( one small between 2 bigs= 3 slots space for 2 slots
actually occupied). Is there any kind of compatibility with CGA, EGA standards ?thanks for any help

I don't know if it is the same but I used an "IBM Professional Graphic
Controller" in an XT about 3 or 4 years ago. Can you say ARF ARF (as in dog)
... I knew you could :-).

this thing used an 8080 (yes i said 8080 aren't you listening!) as the control
chip and was slooooooooow in the text mode and diffffffffficult to program in
the graphic modes. We (westinghouse) used it because we wanted high(!! hah !)
resolution (640 x 480 x 256 colors) for AUTOCad. It is supported by several
cad manufacturers and a few other programs but unless they (IBM) have
improved it substantially i wouldn't touch it with a 3 meter pole.

Also it really sucked power and got HOT (not warm mind you but the top of the
XT case got HOT to the touch!). Any good VGA or enhanced VGA (if you need
640 x 480 x 256 or higher) is a MUCH better bet and cheaper too. (when this
sucker was new it cost $3000 along with its monitor... oh yes i forgot to
metion it required a special monitor to ... multisync might work but i
wouldn't bet the farm on it).

I have some documentation on the original (8 bit ) model if you need it
send me mail and i will get it to you.

Good Luck
