[net.general] CLASSIC COKE

nyssa@abnji.UUCP (nyssa of traken) (07/11/85)

Hello there, coca cola fans!

To be announced to-morrow, Coca Cola will be producing a *new* product,
classic coke, which is the old coca cola formula.

This from Wall Street Week.

"Congratulations, Sir, You survived the vote!"
(What story was that? Who said it?)

Yes, gang, we've done it, and I think Usenet should take responsibility
for it! But anyway, the time has come to discuss ulterior motives. Why
did they do it in the first place? Was there a master plan? Did they
always intend to bring it back after 3 (3?) months? And what about Naomi?

My opinion is that this is all part of a master plan. Perhaps the public
reaction was a tad stronger than they expected (but of course the Old Coke
Drinkers Association may have been secretly sponsored by Coke!), but after
99 years, what could they expect?

Now, as the President of Pepsi said, there are 2 Cokes on the market, 1 that
we consistently beat in taste tests, and the other that nobody likes.
Actually, I count about a dozen products from that company:
Old Coke (and presumably caffeine-free, too)
New Coke (and caffeine free)
Diet Coke ( ditto )
Tab (isn't there also a caffeine free Tab?)
Cherry Coke (in some markets)
Sprite (and Diet Sprite)
...have I forgotten any? I'm sure I'll hear about it if I do.

To be honest, I may be the kind of person that this whole campaign was
aimed at: I had been a casual Old Coke drinker (a can a month maybe)--
my real passion is Mountain Dew--but I campaigned for its return. Now I
suppose I will drink some more of it, at least for a while. I feel I
have to. (well, almost)

One question: has anyone heard when Coke Classic will hit the market?
If they are smart about this (I doubt it), C.C. (not to be confused with
C&C) will be marketed in Old Style bottles/cans. I don't mean with silver
lettering, I mean 40's style lettering, 6 oz bottles, and that old kind of
bottle you see on the Pepsi archaeology commercial.

Wait till Pepsi's new commercials come out! (and what will Bill Cosby drink?)

It's a-gone and you can tell that one goodbye."

I also saw on Good Morning America today that Coca Cola is
bringing back the old formula, in addition to keeping the
new formula on the market. At least they are letting people
     choose what they want.
