I have a Everex AT with one of their Hercules compatable graphics cards. I want to run Microsoft windows on it. I borrowed a copy of 286 Windows version 2.0 from to the Information Center here to make sure it works on this configuration. I installed it saying I had a 100% compatable machine with a Hercules adaptor. It more or less does work but I had the following problems: The display is displaced toward the bottom of the screen with some white area at the top with room for 2-3 rows of characters. The display is much brighter than usual. Some sign of the horizontal retrace during the vertical retrace is visible. If one moves down a menu to the bottom few entries, the window gets divided into two parts with the bottom part appearing at the top of the screen and the top at the bottom. It looks a lot like the display memory begins lower in memory than Microsoft windows expects. Can anyone offer any ideas on these problems?
