[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Chinon scanner and ReadRight program

I'm posting the following query for someone without net access. He needs an
answer soon as the upgrade offer expires shortly. Please post, or email
to me at uunet!utai!csri.toronto.edu!erlebach or erlebach@csri.toronto.edu.

I have a Chinon 2000 desktop overhead scanner, and a ScanFax card. I
am currently trying out an OCR program called ReadRight with the
scanner. The results are spotty but suprisingly good with standard
pica or elite typescript, but quite useless with practically anything
else. Chinon recommends that their model 3000 scanner be used for
this purpose. It upgrades the resolution from 200 to 300 dpi. What I
am wondering is if the increase in resolution would be a significant
improvement, and if the software is good enough to benefit from that
improvement. I have been unable to find any independent evaluation of
    this package.
