[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Philips PC3100/Corona Boot Problem

dedic@mcgill-vision.UUCP (David Dedic) (12/27/88)

Hi,
I bought a Philips PC-3100 a few years back, inside the
case is a Corona XT, outside the case is the Philips Electronics
Logo. Over the past year I have been having a persistant power-up
error:
If the computer is allowed to cool down,
it starts its diagnostic tests ( 1 beep ). Then it
	aborts them about 1.5 s afterwards ( 2nd beep ).
During this time both displays show an un-
changing mixture of characters most in inverse video
some blinking. The video pattern survives even a
cold reset ( via reset button at the back ).
After ~30 minutes a cold reset starts the comp-
uter but it locks up almost immeadiately. About 10
minutes later the cold reset will again work and
the Philips operates normally until the next power failure.

It has been in service twice and the only apparent change
was the bios version. ( Now Philips BIOS Version 3.3)

	System Configuration :
		8088 4.7 Mhz
		8087 "
		1 Serial & 1 Parallel Port
		Philips/Corona Monochrome Monitor
Graphics not IBM Compatible ( OK for text)
IBM CGA card for IBM Graphics
		Western Digital Hard Disk Adapter
				10M Hard Disk ( Seagate I Think )
		2 Epson Half-Height 360k Drives

		150W Power Supply

If anyone has had this sort of a problem before
or anyone has an idea which component to pick on e-mail me
a reply, if there is sufficient interest I will summarize to the net.

							Thanx
