Several dealers are advertising the ARLL disk controller from PERSTOR. This claims to give a 1.9 X increase in storage on any drive rated for MFM or RLL. For example one company offers it with the Seagate ST4096 drive (80 Meg 28mS full height MFM drive) and says you get 150 Meg of storage. Has anybody any direct experience with this controller or has any magazine reviewed it ?. I have a ST4096 but I would like to know whether it has problems before spending around $350 for the controller. Any comments appreciated, thanks.... Mike Gingell ....ecsvax!mjg

I have dealt with this company and they have been pretty good, the card will work with that drive, but they have had some problems w/ certain 386 computers (Mine is a Dell 310 20Mhz) that had conficts with this card. They claim that the bugs have been worked out on the latest version of the card. The performance is pretty good, but not as good speed wize as the Adaptec card which works better with Minscribe's than the Seagates. The Perstore requires a 1:3 interleave while the Adaptect gives you a 1:1 interleave (if you have a fast enough bus to keep up). I am still waiting for Perstor to deliver on their yet to be released high speed version which has on the card disk caching which will allow for 1:1 interleave and keep the 1.9 ARLL expansion. I like the people, their r & d has been a little slow. If and when I get the HI_SPEED 16 bit card, I will report to this newsgroup.
