I went through exactly the same upgrade path using a Maxtor xt2190. I originally had a WD 1002 controller which I discovered would only handle 1024 cylinders (the number of heads was ok I think). I asked the Storage Dimensions people (those who make the Maxtor Drives) for a recommendation and they suggested the WD 1003. It is possible however that your WD1003 is an early one which does not support 1224 cylinders. Perhaps if you called WD and gave them your serial number (800-854-7525) they could tell you. I did wind up buying a WD1003WA2 (includes 2 floppy controller) and it is working happily in the machine which I am using this very moment. I have 160 megs in 5 logical drives of 32 meg each. I used SpeedStor to do the partitioning (it came with the Maxtor drive). -- Howard Spindel - via FidoNet node 1:105/14 UUCP: ...!{uunet!oresoft, tektronix!reed}!busker!Howard.Spindel ARPA: Howard.Spindel@busker.FIDONET.ORG
