[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Need a fast & reputable mail-order source for an AST 6-Pack+

gm@romeo.cs.duke.edu (Greg McGary) (01/04/89)

A friend wants to upgrade her XT with 256K to 640K. All of the local
computer stores I've called are pushing the identical hardware: AST
6-Pack+. None of them have it in stock, all will take 3 days to get
it, and they all want $400+ for it. Since I have to wait for delivery
anyway, I'm predicting that I can save a bundle by going mail-order.

I know I can look in computer shopper for mail-order houses, but that
will only tell me about the price, NOT the reputation of the company.

Which mail-order houses have people in net-land been happy with for
this type of item? Which offer overnight shipping via FedEx 1-day UPS?

Thanks!

I've been pleased with FASTMICRO (800-441-3278). I've ordered from them
twice. They were honest about when an item was backordered. In both
cases I received the item *sooner* than when they promised. I don't
know if they have 1-day shipping. Their Nov88 ad lists the AST 6-Pack+
with 64K for $119.
