[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Graphics Files

jarob@ucrmath.EDU (Karl Bunch, Unix Security Specialist) (01/05/89)

Does anyone out there understand or know of any good publications
on the format of a TIFF file under MS-DOS? They are used to transport
graphics from and to programs like Page Maker and ScanWare (Logitech)

I would like to take a stab at a simple OCR program but my scanner
utilities write to either TIFF, Microsoft Paint or PCX (Logitech's
Paint programs I guess) format. And I can't seem to figure out the
format of any of these files on a bit image level..

Please send mail to me as I don't read this group often..

Thank you,
Karl Bunch

Mail bounced, so here's the dope:

A company called UpStart Services Inc., in Cherry Hill NJ sells
with their 400dpi hand scanner, a program to convert files around.
(At least they said it was included with the scanner, a $xx value
included free if you buy now, [ie. at the computer show])

Perhaps you'd like to drop 'em a line
609/424-2266

or save $$ and merely spend $0.25:
UpStart Serv. Inc.
Cherry Hill Industrial Ctr. Bldg-11
Cherry Hill, NJ 08003-1616

good luck

Also MSC's PIC (PC Paint+ 2.0) file format. MS-Word supports PCX format
incorporation but not PIC. I would like to write a file conversion routine.
I would also like to convert to from PIC to MSP as then I could use Windows'
print to disk function...

If you want to convert between different graphics formats, check your
nearest PC BBS for a shareware program called ICONVERT. It supports
conversion from/to the following formats:

		PrintMaster
		PrintShop
		PC Paint
		Windows Paint
		MacPaint
		NewsMaster
etc. (I don't recall the others)

I have tried this program and it seems to work great!
