[comp.sys.ibm.pc] TC 2.0 graphics?

What is the highest resolution of VGA Turbo c 2.0 or 1.5 can access?

Turbo C supports the highest resolution "standard VGA mode": 640x480x16
colors. Unfortunately, it does not support ANY 256 color mode (on a
VGA). Really, 320x200x256 is trivial to program (each pixel is a byte
in the address map).

I would really like to see a enhanced VGA BGI which supports "super vga"
resolutions of 800x600x16 or 640x480x256!

According to the TC 2.0 manual it is 640x480x16. I am anxiously awaiting a
version of TC that supports 320x200x256 and some of the other extended VGA
modes such as 640x400x256, 800x600x16 etc. I understand that one of the
problems with supporting some of the extended video modes is that each of
the video chip manufacturers is using a different mechanism to access these
modes. I have considered writing an assembler interface to access some of
these extended modes but that has the unfortunate side effect of requiring
me to rewrite all of the graphics primitives such as "line()", "rectangle()",
"putpixel()" etc. Now if someone out there has already done this and wants
to share it I would only be too happy to werve as a Beta test site. :)

Except that the "super VGA" modes vary greatly from card to card....
