[comp.sys.ibm.pc] C Beautifier, uncompress, unshar, patch

evan@blake.acs.washington.edu (Not Evan) (01/29/89)

First, a couple of ah-ha's:
IMHO == In My Humble Opinion
RTFM == Read The Fing Manual
For weeks and weeks, I just blipped over these acronyms. Then finally I
caught them in incriminating sentences and their hidden meanings were revealed
by context... "Oh.", indeed! By the way, can anybody tell me what BTW means?

Second: Recently I posted two unrelated articles:
    1) a request for a public domain C beautifier, and
    2) information about uncompress, unshar, and patch for MS-DOS on SIMTEL20.

Concerning the C beautifier:
To the numerous people who responded by sending me source code for such,
thank you kindly. You have, however, and through no fault of your own, forced
me to the conclusion that there is only ONE pd C beautifier out there. I base
this inference on the fact that of the eleven copies of source code that I
received, seven were identical (and included the SAME bug, a flag declared
char * instead of char), and the other four were various individuals'
improvements thereupon. Of these, PPC.C (Pretty Printer) is by far the best,
by virtue of having about an order of magnitute more comments than the leading
brand.
I also received a few requests for copies of whatever I got. I have
attempted to mail PPC.C to all of these requesters, but nonexistent mail paths
have defeated me in a number of instances. If any of you are still interested
(and if anybody else is newly interested), drop me another request and I'll
try to r)eply to it. If I get enough requests, I'll just post it to this
newsgroup.

oncerning uncompress, unshar, and patch:
I have also received requests for this set of utilities from persons
who don't have access to SIMTEL20 or ftp. Again, I attempted to mail these
files to all requesters, and got bounced by about two-thirds of the mail
paths. If you are still interested, please drop me another line. With
enough prompting, I could be convinced to just post them to the net. I'll
even throw in uuencode/uudecode for MS-DOS on top of the above set. This
combination should handle just about anything an archive site can throw at
you.

Happy hacking!

BTW, can anybody suggest a good acronym for "by the way"?
