I have been running a DTK AT clone at 12Mhz (1 wait) with a (XT) WD1002-27x RLL controller for a while. I finally broke down and spent the money on a 16bit controller, getting a DTC 5287 (hard and floppy on one board). Shortly after I installed the new card, I started seeing "Drive C: not ready" and "Drive A: not ready" errors. The C: (and D:) error cleared up and the system continued running when I said to Retry, but A: had to be rebooted to clear. I got tired of this, as I run a BBS and need the machine to stay running. Upon contacting DTC about the problem (as their controller is the obvious choice as culprit) they said "That card might not be fast enough. Get a 7287 and try that. The 7287 is rated much faster than the 5287." (Supposidly the DTK has a bus speed of 8Mhz, but...) Well, I did. The problem got _worse_. In restoring from the backup (low level format from the new controller..) I had my C: drive "fail" twice and my A: drive fail once. DTC says "Talk to DTK." DTK says "Talk to DTC. Oh, we also have a new BIOS, only $20...." Has anyone else had this problem? More importantly, has anyone FIXED this problem? Please e-mail hints, as I do not have time to read this newsgroup.
