About 6 months ago a guy I worked with left the company and his PC made it's
way into my hands. Unfortunatly, the hardware documentation is pretty much
missing. This is a true blue IBM AT with bajillions of cards in it, most of
which have no documentation. So I'd like to ask a couple of questions.
1. I've got an Intel above board 286 memory board with 2 megs of memory
on it. The only manual I have is a small brochure that says in large
letters "For DOS Experts". Whenever I have a question about the system
all I find is "see regular manual for details". Anyway, I've been
running with a 1.5 meg ramdisk for months but now I need expanded memory.
My little pamplet says to add the line "DEVICE=EMM.SYS M5 I5", to get
expanded memory. I did so, but codeview says "can't find expanded
memory". Norton utilities says I have 1.5 meg of extended memory
(who comes up with these names, anyway). So how do I turn my extended
memory into expanded memory that codeview can use? This is what prompted
this posting, the rest of the questions are of the 'while I'm at it'
variety.
2. What is ramdrive.sys and can it be screwing up my expanded memory?
3. I have a card in this box from Irwin, anybody know what it does? If
I have to I can take the PC apart and give you more info, but for all
I know right now it's a hyperdrive shuttle for the Flying Falcon.
Thanks.
