[net.general] World War II Veterans

mikem@tekcae.UUCP (Michael E. Meyer) (09/16/85)

About a month ago, someone posted an article to the net regarding World War
II Veterans holding life insurance during the war. The person posting the
article claimed that Congress had enacted a law declaring a dividend for
these veterans. In order to receive the divident they had to write to an
address which the article author posted.

I checked with a friend who works here in Portland in the DAV (Disabled
American Veterans) office and she told me that this is a hoax. Not only is
it a hoax, but it seems to be perpetrated every year about this time. This
was verified after calling the VA (Veteran's Administration).

So, for any of you that have fathers, uncles or friends who served, tell them
not to bother writing. To the person that wrote the article, you might want
to verify your information BEFORE posting an article to the net.
