[comp.sys.ibm.pc] PC Tools Version 5 - bugs??

PC Tools Version 5 is the first version I've ever seen, so I don't know if
this "bug report" is a bug or a feature...

A user complained that when in the Notepad editor, strange things happen
when you exceed the size limits on a block of text to be cut into the
Clipboard. He tried to cut a piece greater than 2K, and got a warning
message that it couldn't fit. He went on, and sure enough, only the first
2K got onto the Clipboard. No problem...until he went back to the original
file and found the ENTIRE marked piece gone from the original file! So, he
got more wary, and the next time it happened (yes, this person is a bit
self-destructive...we call it "testing"!), he selected the Cancel option the
warning message allows. No text was put into the Clipboard, but again, the
entire marked piece was gone. I didn't watch this operation, but he's certain
that's the score...

If true, it appears that this little editor cuts first and measures second.
Hate to buy a suit tailor-made by the author of *that* little goodie <grin>...

Something I noticed about PCTools v5 is that when you go into the editor
and the insert mode indicator is flashing, when you exit, the current
directory & file markers on the displays are flashing, too!

How convenient! How obnoxious. Then again, I was looking real quickly
and didn't have time to debug/fix it. Maybe I won't buy it if the
bug/feature list grows.

Using PC-Tools PC Backup with unformatted disks works fine until it
is ready to write the directory information on the last disk. That
one must be formatted. The restore program has a feature that will
recover the directory information by reading the disks and then
write it onto a formatted disk.
