We were told of a shareware program called PC-FILE dB which is susposed to be very good for generating reports from dBase databases. Where can this program be obtained? Can it work with several related files or only a single file per report? Any info would be appreciated... -- Peter Steele, Microcomputer Applications Analyst Acadia University, Wolfville, NS, Canada B0P1X0 (902)542-2201x121 UUCP: {uunet|watmath|utai|garfield}!dalcs!aucs!Peter BITNET: Peter@Acadia Internet: Peter%Acadia.BITNET@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU

My favorite distributor is Public Brand Software, P.O. Box 51315, Indianapolis, IN 46251 (1-800-426-DISK). This company offers an excellent selection of shareware and public-domain products. Their service is outstanding. (I am in no way connected with PBS, but a company like this one deserves a pat on the back.) As for PC-File:db itself, it is PC-File + but with dbase III + file compatibility and full LAN support. PC-File + has an excellent reputation for being a fully featured, user friendly database manager. PC-File:db has a "paint-the-screen style report writer", professional quality charts and graphs, mail merge, and on and on. "Records of up to 70 fields and 4000 bytes" are supported. "All 70 fields may be chained to other dbases to give full relational reporting capabilities." Each dbase can contain up to 1 billion records! The only negative I can see is the fact that the program requires a hard disk or 2 720K (3 1/2") floppies. It won't fit on two 360K floppies. But with something like this, one can't have everything. As shareware works, you can get PC-File:db plus documentation (3 disks) for 15 bucks plus 5 bucks for shipping from PBS. If you like it, full registration is still only $90. Not bad!!
