I just got my first opportunity to give PKZIP a whir, and I tried the option that allowed for the arcing (sorry...zipping) of files in the current sub-directory and all the sub below that. I put the disk to zip into A: which had about 4 sub dirs on it, and proceeded to zip it. The problem began when a "Write error drive A:" came up. I was archiving it to E: so it shouldn't need to write to A:!!!???? So I stopped the zipping, and examined E: to see what I could find. It had produced two files with illegal file names such as "{h~! >[" and each file was 675 megs (yes, that's right, MEGS!) in size. It was impossible to have that much space (only 100megs) so I attempted to delete the files.... nope... DOS refused to accept the names. I tried everything from QDOS to PCTools to delete them, but no go. The files are still there, and they consume 0 bytes, so I am not particularily worried about them...just PKZIP....I'll stick with PKPAK and PAK till I am positive PKZIP has been fixed. BTW: the disk in A: was write protected.
