[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Epson FX286e problem

marv@grebyn.COM (Marvin Raab) (02/19/89)

I was in the middle of printing a WordPerfect 4.2 document on my rarely
used FX-286e when I heard an uusual scratching noise. The printer
than stopped printing. I turned the power on and off a few times (and
checked the connections and paper sensor) and all that happens is the
POWER light is lit and it beeps at me twice, each time with three short
beeps. The ONLINE light doesn't come on nor can I FF or LF nor can I
produce a TEST PRINT.

The manual says (paraphrased): "Check paper and turn it off and on. If
it continues, call a technician."

It continues...

Any idea whats wrong and what it will cost to repair?

Thanks!

Marvin:

First try turning on the printer WITHOUT the printer cable attached.
If the same problem occurs, call an Epson service center.

If you need to know of one; here is the company I work for during the summer
(and they are an Epson Service Center):
          Micro Computer Systems
          250 West 54th Street
          New York, New York 10019 (212) 247-0420
and ask for Al or Tony in Tech. Support and tell them that Johnny sent you.
If the problem doesn't occur, you could either have a defective printer port
on the computer (most likely), or a bad cable (usually not the case, unless
the connectors on the ends are bad or its been sitting on a heater).

I hope this helps. You can use these steps to diagnos any printer.
If you still have problems let me know.
