[comp.sys.ibm.pc] EEMS Simulator for AT Machines Wanted

heasley@uhccux.uhcc.hawaii.edu (Jim Heasley) (02/18/89)

I have found several EMS simulators for PC AT and compatible machines in
the Simtel20 archives. These allow you to "fake" the computer into
using either extended memory (say configured as ramdisk) or hard disk as
expanded memory. Has anyone seen a similar freeware or shareware
program that does the same for EEMS?

Please ack directly to:

Re: EEEEEEEMS Simulators

Please, in 25 words or less, what is the difference between EMS and EEMS?
Inquiring minds want to know.

LIM EMS 4.0 >> EEMS >> LIM EMS 3.2

(">>" means "is upward compatible with". LIM EMS is the Lotus-Intel-
Microsoft Expanded Memory Specification; EEMS is the [AST-Quadram-
Ashton Tate?] Enhanced Expanded Memory Specification. Desqview is one
of the few programs that uses EEMS or LIM EMS 4.0 but not LIM EMS 3.2.)

I'm not speaking for the company, I'm just speaking my mind.

LIM EMS 4.0 is *not* upward compatible with EEMS. However, if you read ">>"
as "is a functional superset of", your statement is correct.

(EMS 3.2 uses function codes 40h through 4Eh, EMS 4.0 uses codes 40h through
5Dh, and EEMS uses function codes 40h through 4Eh plus 60h through 6Ah.
Quarterdeck had to release a new version of DESQview to support EMS4 in addition
to EEMS.)
