I need some references/literature/pointers/etc. regarding portable bar code readers. Here's the situation. I work for a community college district. Each year we have to take physical inventory of our equipment. I was approached with the idea of using bar code tapes on the equipment and going around with a portable recording device to read the codes and store the information to be later transferred to a PC, converted and send to the mainframe. Anyone out there have experience? Can you point me to a source of information? Thanks. Bob

In article 7281@killer.DALLAS.TX.US Bob Calbridge writes > I need some references/literature/pointers/etc. regarding portable bar code > readers. I started to do some research into these for a company I used to work for. The boss wasn't too interested in using new technology so we spent ~200 man hours doing it the old way. I originally got the information from a set of reviews PC Magazine did. The article described the features of each model but didn't do any of their fancy comparisons. If you need Vol/Issue email me. From there I started mailing requests to the companies that advertised in the back of PC Magazine and Computer Shopper. I thought that the model that suited our purpose best was the one that was about the size of a credit card and came in different configurations of memory. Can't remeber the name right now. Sorry I can't shed more light on the subject. eriK erik@cup.portal.com
