[net.music] NO MORE !!!!

sean@garfield.UUCP (Sean Byrne) (04/20/84)

I am sick and tired of all this "Oh I just love %s", some_guitarist
If some one can give me something that this accomplishes, I will gladly
shut up, BUT what point is there in flooding net.music with all this
garbage. What do you care about Joe %s's favorite guitarist/bassist is?

How many of you who rave about their favorite g/b player actually play
either one? Do you know how hard/easy it is to do what these guys do?

Anyway guys, what's the use? Hey! Time for a NEW discussion!!!

Let's try....
"Why in the world does ANYONE listen to Michael Jackson, and like it."

Is it because you like the voice? the music? the popularity? WHAT??

OK, I'll start up some new flames. People listen to Michael Jackson simply
because, in the main, they have had their wants and desires manipulated by
a Galbraithian technostructure.

Well, I don't like the guy anyways. Any man who can't even sing *tenor*
gets no respect from me. Ya, ya, sure, he's makin megabucks while I'm still
unemployed, but.......

So, why does anyone listen to Michael Jackson anyway?

1. They listened to him as a kid, and grew up with him, and are still
his fans. Many (including myself) remember fondly the days of I Want
You Back, ABC, The Love You Save, etc. (remember the cartoon where the
evil guy miniaturized them and put them in a radio?)

2. People who like dance music buy his music because you can dance to
it. They may not like the lyrics, but just as long as it's danceable
it's worth having around for parties.

3. Young kids of today seem to identify with him for some strange
reason. I think it has something to do with the Beat It video (see the
Pepsi commercial where a little kid doing Michael Jackson steps meets
the Jacksons).

4. Hype generates record sales. When Thriller first hit the stores, it
was said that it would produce six singles and shoot straight for the
top. (To be exact, a KISS 108 dj said it.) People bought it because
they wanted to be in on a good thing.

Any others? Flames > /dev/null
