Do any of you guy have any comment on the Everex Step 286/12 computer, any problem on compatibility, reliability and how about their tech. support? I saw there are some notes about their 386 computer, some powered on problem what exactly a problem is that. It seems to me to be a pretty good machine. --Joseph Ng-- jng@m.cs.uiuc.edu jng%m.cs.uiuc.edu@uiucvmd.bitnet

It seems to me to be a pretty good machine. I have worked with the Everex systems a little bit and have been fairly impressed with them. Overall they are a solid piece of hardware. In integrating these systems with several different Network adapters, drive controllers, video adapters, etc. I have had almost no problems with them from a compatability point of view. I did have a little bit of trouble with cursor addressing in some applications, but that was resolved by software switches in all cases. Sorry, but I havent had any direct interaction with their tech support/service personnel. Hope this helps! /-------------------------------------------------------------------------\ || Randy Thompson || || || /SMS Data Products Group, Inc. || uunet!smsdpg!rht || || 12379A Sunrise Valley Drive || || || Reston, Va 22091 || Voice: 703/648-9400 || \-------------------------------------------------------------------------/

As far as I am concerned, the Step 286/12 is a very solid computer and it is plenty fast! In case you didn't know, the Step 286/12 comes with Everex's hard disc cache driver and a RAM disc driver, both of which perform quite well. Also, I'm very pleased with the hard disc controller that comes with the computer. I would definitely recommend the Step 286/12 (you might want to look at the Step 286/16). [I am in no way connected with Everex and every char is my opinion!] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Pete Stoppani UUCP: {...}!hplabs!hpda!stoppani -or- stoppani@hpda
