This posting concerns a project sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and run at Canisius College. We would appreciate your passing along the entire text of this letter to any interested collegues ( i.e. Biology and Biochemistry Departments). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- BIG/PIE (Biology Interaction Group/Partners in Education) is a project sponsored by the NSF and run at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. It is run by Dr. Edward C. Kisailus of the Biology Department. The project involved two weeks of laboratory workshops and lectures for high school biology teachers. It also involves periodic lectures by members of the Canisius faculty which are presently ongoing. The purpose of this is to help improve high school science education as indicated by the President's National Com- mission on Excellence in Education. Thus far, the project has been highly successful. One of the conditions set by the NSF was that information about this type of project be disseminated to other interested parties. Therefore, we are currently experimenting with the use of USENET, an electronic Bulletin Board, to determine if electronic mail is a viable means of com- munication for BIG/PIE-type projects. If you are interested in this type of communications network, please contact us as soon as possible at either our UUCP or U.S. mail address. US Mail: UUCP: Dr. Edward C.
