[comp.sys.ibm.pc] tape drive interfaces

rajohn@hubcap.UUCP (r alan johnson) (01/20/89)

Does anyone in PC land have the specs for the QIC-24 and QIC-02 tape
format and tape interface? I have a ComputerLand (UGH!) tape drive, and
of course they won't provide any sort of technical information whatsoever.
Everything that I read references these QIC (Quarter Inch Comp.) standards,
but nowhere have I found a place to find what the standards are. I checked
IEEE and ANSI literature, but no luck. Any inclinations would be greatly
appreciated.

Email or post, I read this daily.

Thanks heaps!!

Does anyone have or know of device drivers that can make tape drives accessible
at a file level in DOS? Specifically, I have a QIC-02 tape drive, which uses a
QIC-40 file interface. The software provided is the general backup program,
but I want something that will allow a bit more flexibility. The vendor
(Computerland) isn't talking, but I know that I have heard of such a beast.
I received (via the net) specs on the 02 interface, but that really isn't
enough to do what I want, plus I really don't really want to create such a
beast if someone else has. Any and all help is appreciated. (Specific and/or
general)
