To all you people looking for PC-related French tools, here's some info obtained from the IBM ISAAC server machine: 1) Systeme-D: Writing assistant for French (date of info 14-Sep-88) James S Noblitt, Donald F. Sola (Cornell University), Willem J.A. Pet (Summer Institute of Linguistics, Suriname) Systeme-D is a French Composition tool for intermediate to advanced students as well as for highly motivated second-semester beginning students. The program provides a basic word-processor as well as lexical, grammmatical, and functional information derived from such sources as Francais Fondamental word list, the Threshold Level studies of the Council of Europe, and the lexical and grammatical contents of introductory college French texts. There is a 4,400 word bilingual dictionary, .25 million verb forms, etc. Systeme-D is published by Heinle and Heinle Publishers, Inc., Boston, MA; $150.00 for individual copies, site licenses start at $300.00 Systeme-D was one of the winners of the 1988 EDUCOM/NCRIPTAL Higher Education Awards. 2) JET:SPELL, multilingual spell-checker (date of info 17-Oct-88) Multilingual spelling checker that has nine user-tailorable dictionaries of unlimited size in which to store terms and names particular to the user's work. It supports WordStar, WordPerfect, and ASCII files. Availabe language dictionaries include: American Danish Dutch English French German Italian Norwegian Spanish Swedish Jet: Spell Multilingual System Disk w/one dictionary is $109.95. Each additional dictionary is $59.95. Site licensing and educational discounts can be arranged through Campus Technology Products (703)777-9110 Publisher/Distributor: POLYGLOT, INC. 2540 FRONTIER AVE. SUITE 2000 Boulder CO 80301 (303)449-7002 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Personally, I have not had any experience with either of these systems. I'm not sure how accented and other characters are dealt with in the spell-checkers, but I'm sure that's a major concern with multilingual checking and is dealt with appropriately. Now, can anyone point me to something like the above for Macintosh systems? (not on comp.sys.ibm.pc of course :-) -Cris -- /''''--''''''''''''''''.
