[comp.sys.ibm.pc] defect-list:what % is consider high

jng@m.cs.uiuc.edu (03/08/89)

Hi, Folks. I just bought a CompuAdd 286/12, everything works fine, but
I found out that my Miniscribe hard disk has a defect list of 25 entry.
So out of 1024 cyl with 5 heads, 25 of them will be mark as bad sector.
Is that too high, or is this just normal. (I had a Miniscribe 43 Mb 25 ms HD)
Any help will be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Through the chkdsk, I have a total of 256000 bytes in the bad sector.
Is that bad?

I've heard that the most defects that the disk manufacturers will pass
is 1 per Mbyte. So your disk is within manufacturers' spec for what
that's worth.
