About a month ago I asked about extracting data from lotus spreadsheets. Thanks go to David M. Pereira, Tom Wilson, "Neil", and Edward Steven Shear for their replies. Here is my original question followed by their replies. >I'm looking for a program that will extract a specified >range of data from Lotus (.wk1) spreadsheets without >going into lotus. It is part of their New Wave environment, but may be available separately. It is called a "Browser". I've seen it demonstrated as a means of displaying portions of the spreadsheet without running Lotus. Whether it can then extract ranges of data into another file, I don't know. New Wave is built on top of MS Windows, so that may be another obstacle in your way, although the Browser may be able to run independently of Windows. The contact point is HP Personal Software Division in Santa Clara. (408) 749-9500. Let me know if you are successful in finding something. Regards, David M. It is actually pretty simple since all data, formulae, etc are maintained in individual records, with each record containing the address of the cell the data resides in. I have the version 1.x file format on file and can send it to you if you wish. The 1.x format is so similar to 2.x that you don't need to buy the book if all you want is the data. The book is called Lotus File Formats for 1-2-3, Symphony and Jazz Data File Descriptions for Developers publisher : Addison-Wesley -- ========================================================================== ---- Neil ---- N.Law@Waterloo.NCR.COM {sdcsvax,cbosgd,pyramid}!ncr-sd!ncrlnk!ncrwat!swdev!neil ######################################################### From: Tedster Punster Shear <uunet!uxa.cso.uiuc.edu!ess90297> hi i didn't want to post this because the info is not very specific. But here it goes. A PC Magazine in the last year or so had an article about directly manipulating lotus files. They used BASIC for their examples. The information about the format came from a book called _File Formats for Popular PC Programs_ (not sure of Author, c.1986). this might give you a lead on where to look. Unfourtunately, I do not have my complete CS library at school, so I cant provide you with more. If you still need some more information in March, send me e-mail, and I can pick it up when I am home on Spring -Break. Edward Steven Shear 601 E.
