I have a Datec 212 modem (1200 baud, auto-answer, auto-dial) which I'm soon going to want to sell. It's not Hayes compatible but that never bothered me - I just type in the dial commands manually (it has two 24-char # memories or 1 48-char memory so it's only 2 keystrokes to make it dial unless you have to change the phone number). However I think that small fact might make it unsellable (in fact, that might be why I got it cheap, after my uncle tried to sell it at his store). A while ago I saw a program for the IBM PC that supported the Datec dialing method. What I would like is to know what this program was, if there are any others (for any computer whatsoever) that will dial a Datec automatically, and how much any such programs are. That way I can say something like "well, even though it's not Hayes compatible, you can use 'xxx' -- it will do the dialing for you, and at $yy.yy (some low number, preferably free but is that wishful thinking?), and that makes this a good deal for a starter modem. Then when you do upgrade, say to a 2400 baud Hayes compatible, you're already set with a terminal program and everything." Note I'm not selling anything yet and even if I do get an answer to this I'm not necessarily selling it. That sale would be contingent on me getting a good deal on a 2400 baud modem. Please reply by mail; I don't read either of these groups (I'm not using this modem on an IBM or clone now). Andy art100@psuvm.bitnet / a1t@ecl.psu.edu
