Thanks again for the FLOOD of information. I wanted to add that I've had a number of people have suggested backing it up and reformatting it (low level, of course) once it's horizontal. Makes sense to me. Also, one person who used to work at CDC said that some if not all drives are specifically not supposed to go "on end," that is, faceplate down or up, but that they were fine the other way...
