Hi all. This is a "have you ever heard of a..." type question involving HPGL plotter instruction files. 1) Has anyone ever heard of a software package that can take an HPGL instruction file and plot it on a PC compatible screen display? 2) Does anyone know of a package that can take this same HPGL file and convert it into a (Whoever)CAD drawing? (We'd prefer AutoCAD, but we're flexible). I realize this is backwards from what most people want to do, but we really do have an application for it. For those who are interested, we have a home built program on our Ultrix uVAX that takes an output from a U.S.G.S. groundwater program, calculates contour information, and generates a stream of HPGL instructions as its output. Standard procedure so far has been to pipe this HPGL stream to a 7475A plotter, but it would be nice to be able to redirect the output to a file, download it to a PC with a ?GA display adaptor and 1) Get an onscreen preview without having to wait ages for the plotter and/or, 2) Be able to overlay this contour info onto a CAD drawing of the area. I know that there are a number of AutoCAD add-ons that can do all of the above, but the cost + retraining time is too steep. Likewise, retooling the contouring program so that it spits out AutoCAD compatable output isn't too attractive either since the author is no longer with us (Dave, are you out there somewhere?). Please reply by email; if there's interest, I'll post a summary. Thanks for your help! Jim Roberts LIVE: Jim F.
