I inherited a Panasonic KX-P3151 daisy wheel printer a few years back and
tried to put it to good use. After some experimentation, I was able to
print to it from a Zenith Z-100 (MS-DOS, not clone) by configuring the
serial port to 9600, 7bit, 1 stop, odd parity and DTR Positive. I used
Wordstar (the old one...Version 2??) and got very nice output, though
slower than ye old dot matrix.
Now we have a Kaypro PC-30 (XT compatible, 2 years old) sitting a little
closer to the Panasonic, so I tried printing to it using WordPerfect 5.0,
Wordstar old, Wordstar 4, and even directory listings as in DIR>COM1.
Nothing we try will make that printer listen to the Kaypro. I think I've
tried every MODE setting under the sun. WP 5.0 actually lists this printer,
and I tried every combination (I think...not sure about the correct setting
of XON/XOFF) that made sense, and no go.
Does anyone know anything strange/wonderous about the Kaypro XT serial ports?
Seems to run ProComm through our 9600 baud modem just fine, but the same
port/cable when hooked to the Panasonic just dummies up. Thanks...
