[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Help with Timer Problem

wilso_d@cs.odu.edu (DeWitte Wilson) (03/29/89)

Hi. I'm trying to set up a sort of stopwatch program in BASIC, but I'm
having problems with the accuracy. I need to be accurate up to the
thousanths position. An example would be the time it takes for an object
to free fall. If it started at 1.234, and ended at 2.308, I can assume
that the time interval is (2.308 - 1.234). How would I go about attacking
this problem? I read that there are interrupts which come from the 8253
chip counting up to 65536 every 18 times a second (or some other vague
information like that) Does anyone have any experience with something
like this, or have you seen any manuals/programmers' references that would
cover this?

Please EMAIL me with any information, all of which will be greatly
appreciated.
