lu>I had a problem with a computer that was given to me. It's a
lu>Panasonic
lu>Business Partner 286 and it had a 40Meg Fujitsu 3.5" hard drive
lu>(M222702). I tried to get the hard drive set up properly with it,
lu>but I was told that since that type of drive (#heads, #cyls, etc.)
lu>wasn't
lu>in the BIOS listing anywhere (AT-compatible), I couldn't use this
lu>drive
lu>to its fullest, if at all.

Dear L. HASKINS
Please add to my last message the following;
I formatted my HD to be 20 MB and 22 MB drives so that I could
have the smallest sectors possible without telling Disc-Master to
change the sector size. The docs which came with D-M suggested that
some programs might not like finding different sector sizes, although
in retrospect, I don't see why not.

Also, D-M gave me a different interleave factor which I changed later
with one of the programs from the CRS Bulletin Board in Toronto.
Since then I have not found the access time to be any better on the
benchmark, although I can change it and make it much worse.

Previous message info repeated below.
     Disc type ---- 7
     Cyl's -------- 615
     interleave --- 2
     pre-comp ----- 615 (try 0 first)
     heads -------- 8

Apparently the pre-comp could have been set to 0 and the disc access
wud be faster. It is supposed to be a 28 ms drive but currently
clocks in at about 33 ms. I'd change it but it currently works so why
*fix* it. If I change the Hard Disc Controller to an ARLL then I'll
have the opportunity to change it.

-------Good Luck-------
