[comp.sys.ibm.pc] How does EMS Work?

0rrodrig@teknowledge-vaxc.ARPA (Russ Rodriguez) (04/02/89)

Greetings Programmers:

I'm interested in getting my old AST ADVANTAGE! (1.5mb EXTENDED MEM)
to act as EMS or EXPANDED memory. Unfortunately for me, the 1985-Vintage
card doesn't seem to have a proviso for EMS. So the obvious question:

Can this card be used within an IBM-Compatible AT to perform the EMS
function with the proper EMS device driver?

NOTE:	I tried using a shareware version of an EMS 3.2 driver called
"EMSimulator", but it wouldn't see the memory above the 640k of
system board memory, although it allocated about 200k of the DOS
	memory as EMS.

I also tried using Intel's Above Board driver: EMM.SYS, but it
	balked at the non-intel card.

Any help would be appreciated.
