[comp.sys.ibm.pc] FYI: Bad experience with "LA Computer Comp" mail order

jack@rufus.robotics.jpl.nasa.gov (Jack Morrison) (04/07/89)

This company has large ads in INFOWORLD, BYTE, etc.; I'd recommend
against dealing with them, because:

I phoned in an order for $300 worth of software. I was told it would be
be delivered in 3-4 days.

Two weeks later (no delivery), I called them. They said it had been
shipped, but would have to call me back if I wanted to know *when*.

Next day (no call back), I called again. They said it had been shipped
two days earlier, and should arrive in a day or so.

Two weeks later (no delivery), I called again. They said they would send
it 2nd day express at their expense. "You mean it *hasn't* been shipped
yet?".

Next day I got my credit card statement. The charge had been posted on
the day I called in the order.

A week later (no delivery), I called again, and told them to cancel
the order. The place is under 50 miles from here - I could have WALKED
over to pick it up by now. They said they'd remove the credit charge.
(I warned the credit card people - thank goodness for the rules about
disputes over credit charges).

Two weeks later, the charge is still on my account. I asked to talk to
a supervisor, and I'm still waiting for the #$%* to call back.

Your mileage may vary, but I wanted to get this off my chest, maybe
save someone else from this hassle, and maybe kill off some of these
turkeys' business.
