If any of you are bored ( :-) ) and need something to do, I could use a bit of advice.... I am looking for the following: 1) very reliable hard drive, 60 - 80Mb Priam, Maxstor, Micropolis?? 2) external tape backup - must be able to do incrementals and be virtually foolproof. Mountain?? 3) High quality dot-matrix printer; speed is less an issue than print quality. Can't afford laser, sigh... 4) Good keyboard - Northgate?? (I know - very subjective, but a few suggestions of ones to check out would help... ) The above will be used in either a PC or AT (not true blue; an as yet to be determined clone.) The person using the machine will be my father's secretary (she is not used to working on computers, so the easier the better (esp. for backups). The machine will have mostly very static data - entered once, referenced in decreasing frequency with time. Some of the data (policy books, etc) will be subject to once-a-year revision, but most will very rarely change. Speed of operation is not highly critical. Very little work will be done in database/spreadsheet applications, most of the time will be with data entry and wordprocessing. Most of the database work is for archival purposes only. If possible, model numbers and approximate prices would be appreciated. The budget is somewhat limited, so "x is pretty good & cheap" comments would also be useful. Please email responses as I do not have time to keep up with all the traffic in the group. Thanks in advance for your help. Gord Vreugdenhil gvreugdenhil@violet.waterloo.edu
