[comp.sys.ibm.pc] EPSON-emulating DeskJet & 2-pass LQ mode

terrell@druhi.ATT.COM (TerrellE) (04/13/89)

I think my question about "2-pass letter-quality mode" in the EPSON
emulation of the HP DeskJet printer was misunderstood...

Of course, if I were just dumping ascii characters to the printer,
letter-quality would be automatic, since the printer would use its
built-in fonts.

However, the word processor that I'm using does not use the built-in
fonts, and instead prints everything in graphics mode, using the
EPSON "2-pass letter-quality mode".

Hence my question about whether or not this mode is supported by the
DeskJet with an EPSON emulation cartridge.

Thanks,

Eric Terrell

Oh, I see. Your package is evidently using one of the higher resolution
graphics modes, and probably multipassing with very small linefeeds to
simulate a vertical resolution of 1/216", rather than the head spacing
resolution of 1/72".

The DeskJet Epson emulation cartridge will support this mode. One word of
caution however -- when using very small linefeeds in graphics, it is possible
to put down a great deal of ink on the page. This is probably no problem with
text, but if you were doing densely black graphics, it may require many extra
seconds of drying time.

Does this answer your question?
