[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Problem with extended memory in an AT

paryavi@harris.cis.ksu.edu (Saiid Paryavi) (04/16/89)

I have got an 20mhz AT clone with Award BIOS. I also have 1 meg of extended
RAM for a total of 2 MEG RAM. The problem I have is that I cannot run
Windows and PageMaker. PM refuses to open under Windows telling me there is
not enough memory. It seems like the machine (or software) is not recognizing
my extended RAM. I am new to the AT world and the business of extended RAM.
Could some kind sole out there explain to me what the problem might be.

Please reply directly to me as I don't read this newsgroup regularly.

Thank you in advance

Windows will not recognize extended memory. You need to
install an expanded memory driver that will treat your
extended memory as expanded memory. I don't know where you
can get such a driver. I got my machine from Dell with a
memory expansion kit and it came with an expanded memory
driver. Hope this helps.
