[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Can you use an 8 bit EMM card in an AT clone?

acero@tank.uchicago.edu (Anibal Acero) (04/18/89)

I have a THE expanded memory board for an XT with 1MB of DRAM on it. It
*was* installed in my XT clone, but I have since upgraded to an AT. For
a long time I thought the expanded memory board was unusable in my new computer
but today I installed it, and lo and behold, it backfilled my main memory all
the way to 640K (I only had 512 installed). My question is:
is there any access to the rest of the memory on the EMM board (well over 800K
by my count)?
The documentation (if it can be called that) which came with the AT clone says
the EMS port address can be E8H or 98H. The documentation which came with the
THE EMM card says that by adjusting various DIP switches the port address can
be set to 208, 218, 258, 268, 2A8, 2B8 or 2E8 (all presumably in hexadecimal).
Is it possible to make the two reconcile? Do I have to break down and buy
an AT EMM board? (performance is not an issue, memory, or the lack of it is)

If you can shed any light on this please mail; I will summarize if there is
interest.

Many thanks,

Anibal Antonio Acero
