Here's a problem that has started to pop up lately at our school district. Under certain circumstances the numeric key pad acts contrary to what the numlock light says. We suspect anything from the keyboard to the software. So far this has happened using two different software packages that do totally different things. Personally, I don't know why these people don't shift their interpretation of the numlock light. However, I would like to be able to provide some explanation for this phenomenom. Does anyone have anything to offer? Thanks, Bob -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- = I know it's petty.......... = - But I have to justify my salary! - =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

My guess would be that you are running some software that talks directly to the 8041 ( or 8042 ) keyboard controller, and that software may have 'mistakenly?' switched on/off the numlock light. If you look in the tech ref for your machine you will find that its a fairly easy task to turn on/off the keyboard lights, and that their state relative to the actual state of the keyboard is one of convention not requirement. This is the most probable explanation of your problem... Hope it helps.. Bill Ives HP CTD
