I'm looking for information on OCR software, specifically a program called SPOT (Flagstaff something..?). I have tested several programs, like OCR+, Recognita et.al, but they either fail translating proportional text, or they cannot cope with italics, or they just generally seem to be at the alpha test stage. What I am looking for is a program that can: - support different scanners like HP ScanJet or DFI HS-3000 Handy Scanner. - translate proportionally spaced text, monospaced, italics et.c. - translate image files written with different formats (TIF, MSP, IMG et.c.). - cope with different typefaces and sizes within the same page. - output text files using ASCII, MSW and possibly WPS+ (DX) format. - compensate for misalignments. - be trained to recognize exotic characters like the ones some crazy Swede decided to add to ASCII some centuries ago. (Maby he didn't know about ASCII ??) Someone told me that Spot would be just right for me, but I haven't been able to find a local (i.e. Swedish) dealer. So, any info on Spot or other OCR software out there on the net? If possible, reply via E-mail, I'll post a summary to the net.
