[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Redefining the backspace key

dbarnes@garth.UUCP (Dave Barnes) (04/26/89)

I'm evaluating Telix as a terminal emulator. Ideally, I should
have a vt100 terminal by Telix does vt102 instead. When I try to
do a backspace, it gives me a "^H" instead. To get a destructive
backspace, I have to hit "^-bksp". I understand the Procomm+
test drive has the same situation.
I can redefine the backspace key to be a delete, but I don't know
the characters to enter.
Can anyone tell me the character representation of a backspace
(or a destructive backspace?)
Email me your responses, so it doesn't clog the net.
Many thanks!

Sorry I couldn't get any mail through but since your query seems to
come up often enough:

From the Telix dialing menu (alt-D) you can edit the entry so it
will send an erase instead of a ^H. Just place the cursor over the
entry to edit and hit 'e'. Then go through the options to # 14 'BS
key sends' and select 'del'.
Or, if you're on a Unix system enter 'stty erase ^H' at the command
line, from your .login file or in a Telix logon script.

 Happy Trails,
                Roger
