Does anybody know how a fax machine communicates? I know G3 machines work at 9600 bps, with automatic fallback. The question is: Can a simple 9600 bps modem be used as a fax, with an appropiate program to drive it? If it is possible, does anybody know what the standard is? The only thing I know is that fax machines use a modified Huffman compression algorithm. I also know there is a CCITT standard, but I couldn't find it here. Any help will be appreciated.
