[comp.sys.ibm.pc] FiveStar or CPU?? Info wanted.

I got a machine from MCS, Inc. (they're on the net) and it's fantastic.
20 Mhz, 0 wait states (actually 1/2 wait, 4-way interleaved),
and _cheapas well. I got the following:
     386 (base system w/mono monitor) $1949.00
St251 fixed disk (from another local distrib) - $399

MCS wanted a little more for the disk drive ($500), so I bought it
elsewhere. Overall I'm very pleased. The system has a 230 W
power supply, 101-key keyboard, 1.2MB floppy, and WA-3 controller
installed in it. Comes with a one year warranty, and they say
it's certified for Xenix and Novell use as well as the more-well-known
MSDOS.

MCS did take 3-4 days to ship the machine, but they didn't charge
my VISA until they shipped it, adn when it arrived it worked right out
of the box. No complaints. I haven't run into any compatibility
problems yet. The system uses SIPPS for memory; MCS has additional megs
for $300; the system will take 8MB on the motherboard (if you either
discard or sell the 256K sipps it comes with and get 1MB units).

Their technical support is also accessible, although not toll-free. I had
one question related to a EGA board installation (second monitor)
and they knew what I could and couldn't do with that....

Call 'em if you want a good deal; their phone number is 312/566-8910.
You can reach them on the net at at mcs@ddsw1.MCS.COM
