[comp.sys.ibm.pc] EGA Extension Cable

donnam@thor.SanDiego.NCR.COM (Donna Mitchell) (04/26/89)

Does anyone make EGA extension cables? The cable for my NEC Multisync II
is so short that the monitor has to be fairly close to the processor.

I've looked through various computer supply catalogs and have never
seen any for sale.

Does anyone know if they are available, from whom and the price?

Thanks in advance!

Altex Electronics sells many type of cables and cable parts at low prices.
Monitor and keyboard extension cables are $5.95 and $3.95 respectively.

Price is not known, but Inacomp Computer centers can get them for you. When
I was at Nicolet, we bought quite a few to set up a multi-monitor operation.

A cheap and dirty solution:

Get a Radio Shack "Joystick Extension Cable" for about 5 bucks. It
works for EGA but isn't shielded.

I bought one from CompuAdd. I don't remember the price, but it was
cheap compared to what I had seen elsewhere. CompuAdd sells a lot of
accessories, but their big ads in PC magazine only show their major
end items (computers, printers, etc).

Just be sure that it is VERY well shielded. The longer the cable, the greater
the potential for fuzzier screens.
