[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Chinon Diskdrives

Hello,
Recently I bought a chinon FB-357 3.5 inch drive (720/1.44).
This drive should be able to read/write 1.44 MB disks as long as
they are HD disks.
And around here, HD disk are simply to expansive to even consider to buy.
My question:
Is there a possibility with this drive by setting some dipswitches/jumpers
that it doesn't give a d*mn anymore what kind of diskettes I use,
and give me the possiblility to format regular DD flops up to
1.44Mb (and read them back).?

If so, pls don't be shy, and answer.

ps. I know formating DD's with 1.44 MB is unreliable, but who cares.
