[comp.sys.ibm.pc] JADE micro

beckman@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu (Peter Beckman) (04/26/89)

I recently tried to place an order with JADE microcomputers, anyway,
to make a long story short, they were quite rude over the phone,
and when I called back and asked for the manager, he was even more so.
I had asked when the product would be delivered. The sales rep said 10
days. I asked if he could check if the product was in stock, because 10
days was a little close to the time that I needed it. He replied that
it was not in stock. I asked him how he could say it would take 10 days
until it came to my door, if it was not in stock. He became angry and
hung up. This is not the kind of place I will ever do business with again,
and I wonder if any of you have had similar experiances?

I had a similar experience with Jade. Best prices around,
nothing in stock, piss poor clerks, even worse management.

I ordered a printer from them, after about 2 weeks, I called, they said
not in stock, should be in by friday. I cancelled the order and got it
from Bulldog.
I didn't learn after the first try so about a month later
I ordered a 1.44 MEG floppy, got a 720 in the mail 2 days later.
I called and told them that I needed the 1.44 right away, made arangements
for them to ship that day while I returned the 720. After about a week,
I called and heard, "not in stock, should be in in about 2 weeks".
I cancelled the order, it took about 3 months and many calls to get the
charges off of my VISA card. I got the impression that no-one there
ever wrote anything down cause each time I called it seemed like it
was the first time that the order had been cancelled.

One posative thing though, I never spent a penny of my own in dealing
with them. All calls were to an 800 number and when they did credit
my VISA they included my expense for returning the 720 disk.

I have recently dealt with JDR Microdevices. I ordered a V20 replacement
for my 8088. Without prompting, they told me that it was in stock and
how long it would take to arrive. It arrived a day early... The sales
person was knew what the hardware did and was able to give me some advice
on which chip to purchase....

I thought a good experience with a mail order company was a less common
occurance, and hence noteworthy....

I can second this good impression of JDR. I ordered my hard drive from
them, and it was here in three days. Adaquate installation, worked
first and every time since.

In a similar vein, I just ordered a Promodem 2400G from Telemart, and
I was told it was in stock and to expect it in 7-10 working days. It
showed after 4 working days, and works fine. Did some Ohio-California
ZMODEM transfers (~100k) and had no trouble.
