[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Info wanted on COMPUADD systems

diblanch@sdrc.UUCP (Jeff Blanchet) (05/04/89)

I am interested in buying a PC. I found a system that Compuadd has that
seems like a pretty good deal. What I want to know is if anyone out there
has bought anything from this company. I am interested in buying a complete
system but if you only bought one thing from them I would still be interested
in hearing about it.

Here is a breakdown on what I plan to buy:

	286/12 System (63178)
		12 - 6 MHZ Switchable
		0 wait state
		512K of RAM
		6 16-bit and 2 8-bit slots
	Seagate 40 meg (28ms) harddrive (47207)
	Color VGA 13" Analog monitor $415 (51079)
CompuAdd (Paradise) 16-bit VGA card (48333)

All of the above comes to $2019 (This price has been confirmed).

I am also looking at a modem:

	I/O card (1 serial and 1 parallel) $49 (48000)
External 2400 baud CompuAdd modem $129

And a mouse

	CompuAdd 3 button Serial mouse $55 (55052)
	Mouse Pad $4.95 (55040)

All prices shown are correct. They are the curent prices and are not
the same as what is shown in their current catalog.

So what do you people think? Is this a good deal? has anyone dealt with
this company before? What problems have anyone had with this company?

Please let me know as I am trying to make my decision in the next few days.

Thanks:-)

I have ordered several items from CompuADD and have found that the company
is extremely responsive and helpful. Their prices are generally a little
higher than the lowest prices, but they stock what they advertise and deliver
rapidly. In one case, I ordered a 110MB disk drive and had compatibility
problems with my PC's limited 286 machine and the Adaptec 2732 RLL controller.
As a result, they encouraged me to test the condition of the controller by
returning it - no questions asked. It finally turned out to be a BIOS
compatibility problem with the controller, but returning the controller allowed
me to isolate the problem. The tech support line was toll free and was about
as helpful as they could be under the circumstances.
