How does one take a Seagate 212 that was formatted on an AT and get it to work again on an XT? Many thanks in advance.

If you are using the same controller (or in most cases, the same brand and model) in the XT, just move the controller, plug in the drive and it will work. If you are not using the same controller, it doesn't matter whether you are going from XT to AT, AT to XT or XT to XT or AT to AT. If the drive will not work on a different controller IN THE SAME COMPUTER, it will need to be reformatted. It is the controller, not the computer, that reads the drive (you cannot, however, move a strictly AT controller into an XT). If yoiu cannot read the drive, you must do a backup and low-level format. I have the same brand and model (OMTI, Scientific Microsystems) controller in both my AT and my wife's XT. I can move any one of our three hard drives to anyone of the computers because they were all formatted with the same controller.
