[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Summary of Gateway 2000 info

Two weeks ago, I posted this:

I got one response from a Gateway user, Greg Cook (thanks, Greg!),
who also posted his response here, in article <2953@cps3xx.UUCP>.

I also got 5 requests for copies of whatever info I got, and suggestions
to look at the October 1988 edition of Byte (which reviewed 20 '386 boxes,
including Gateway), and the May 30, 1989 edition of PC Magazine (which
reviewed 104 '386 boxes, *not* including Gateway).

The Byte article chose the Gateway as the best overall system among the 20
low-cost '386 systems reviewed. However, Gateway does cut corners: for
example, the 20-MHz system Byte reviewed had only a 16-MHz CPU chip in it.
Gateway seems a reasonable choice if you are willing to compromise some
quality to get a low price.
